commitment

Today I listened to a rebroadcast of journalist David Brooks addressing the Aspen Ideas Festival. His thoughts fit so well into what I’m reading, so I thought you might enjoy listening to him as well.

The Four Commitments: The Choices That Create Your Life

The four commitments that create our lives are as follows:

  • Spouse/family
  • Faith/philosophy
  • Community
  • Vocation

Here’s one of my favorite quotes because it talks about protecting the commitment. That’s why a commitment goes beyond a promise.

Making a commitment means falling in love with something and then building a structure of behavior around it for those moments when love falters.

If you take time to listen, please leave a comment. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.
